Please pardon my "crashing", too. Shar, what a wonderfully kind-hearted woman you are. Shadow and Lamar are very lucky to have you as their person.
The house playing sounds like a wonderful time, too.
We have two cats or, rather, two cats have us. LOL Recently, I heard this definition of dogs and cats. A dog thinks, "These humans feed me, shelter me, and love me. They must be gods," while a cat thinks, "These humans feed me, shelter me, and love me. I must be a god."
Doc, the black cat who has claimed me as his person works very hard when I'm in a bad way. When I'm in my worst states, I sleep on the couch and he hovers, almost as if being "on alert." One horrible night last week, my sleep was racked with bad dreams and he'd wake me up. He kept this up through the night, every time I slipped into a nightmare, he'd wake me. If a person isn't an animal person, this will sound totally bizarre, but in bleak times, he'll cuddle close, nuzzling, giving me the warmth and comfort of his unconditional love, almost as if he's drawing the poison out of me. When I bounce back, he'll spend far more time outside, as if recharging his batteries after having to work so hard, helping me.
My husband recently had a surgical diagnostic procedure and, Sir, the other cat, never left his side the week before surgery or during his convalesence. My husband was under very tight restrictions for three days following the procedure, and Sir stayed right beside him. On the fourth day, Sir began resuming his normal routines.
What kind and loving patience you've given Lamar and Shadow and undoubtedly, they return the love in equal measure. Clearly, they trust you with their hearts and their lives - you've given them hope and home.
I sincerely believe there is a special place in Heaven (or where ever) for people who have animals in their hearts and that people who are cruel to animals will burn in the worst sort of hell.
Shar, we also share Hallowe'en as a favorite holiday. Fortunately, the cats DO enjoy the pumpkins - as well as the rest of the decorations.
I thoroughly enjoy reading your posts. You're such a fascinating person.
