Update on California Insurance Problems and Thanks

Posted by Abby on October 9, 2000, at 23:58:21

Thank you to all who answered my initial query. Just a quick note on some points I for got to mention.

I'm 25. So I think that I wouldn't be eligible for health insurance through my father. In any event he is in graduate school and gets his health insurance through a student plan in Massachusetts organized around a University Health Center. In any case, I am not claimed as a dependant.

From what I can tell Aetna and United Health Care do not provide individual policies outside of some of the Northeastern states. The American Bar Association offers a student insurance plan, but it is really just catastrophic coverage with nothing for routine, preventative care and complete exclusion on mental or nervous disorders.

I mentioned those other plans, because they do sell individual policies.

Does anyone know of a group I could join to get bargaining power?

Thanks,
Abby
