James - My daughter, Ana, got a kitten for her 5th birthday. It has been wonderful therapy for grief. I never have liked cats, but I am changing my views. This animal can do such stupid (but funny) things and walk away like she meant to do them. The laughter and joy she brings us takes us away from all our cares and tears, even if just for the moment.
Also, we do have a 9 yr. old dog (an SPCA special). The unconditional love that an animal brings is one of the greatest feelings in the world. Sometimes I think that life is not worth living, but the love of my wife, daughter and the animals makes my life even more precious than I ever could have imagined. You begin to realize things like this when your seemingly stable life is shattered in the blink of an eye. You begin to realize just how fragile our existence really is. Enjoy every moment; no, enjoy every millisecond, because this is the only life we have.Thank you for this thread James; you truly are a saint. Love Cam
