Because of the plumbing in common (the penis, and four inches of ureter), the erection clamps off the ureter at the level of the prostate. That forces the ejaculate out, rather than allowing it to go back up into the bladder (retrograde ejaculation). That's not so good for reproductive success, from an evolutionary standpoint.
