I agree. And, I think, maybe, that's the point of the song, particularly when she sings "Happily ever after darlin, well that came after I was gone . . . ". In other words, the joke's on her? I think it's about bitter ironies and the cruel jokes life can play on us. Nevertheless, I like the song too.
I never bought any of her earlier stuff when she was with the band Scandal (if I remember the name right). Anyways, it was a bit harder rock. She has mellowed I believe as a solo artist.
