I like it when my therapist does something real, so I understand that new facet of her personality is interesting and funny.
The first time my therapist swore, it was perhaps a bit too early in the therapy and it felt sort of forced. Like he was giving me permission to swear if I wanted. Like it was a technique he used to set clients at ease. It's nice that your pdoc waited until she felt like swearing. :)
It's entirely fair (in my therapy at least) to ask a therapist about her in session reactions. Knowing why she felt sad, or perhaps not sad precisely but definitely affected, might even help you understand your relationship with your mother better. At least I've found it so. Having my therapist explain his reactions helps me find a new perspective.
