In reply to Christmas and New Year's have you down?, posted by rnny on December 22, 2009, at 23:38:39
Rnny I know just how you feel.
It can be hard not feeling miserable when all around you everyone else seems so happy.
You are not a failure or a loser. I for one am very happy to know you in just this short time. Your posts really touch me. Which is how I know you're not a failure, because you've succeeded in being someone special that I look forward to hearing from. I hope you know how much of a difference you're making.
I will share 2 sites with you that really helped me a lot. www.meetin.org and www.meetup.com
I'm very shy and I don't meet people easily. It also seems the older we get,the harder it becomes to get new friends. I mean real friends; people who actually love you for who you are. I stumbled on these sites after I moved to a new city and desperately wanted people to hang out with, see movies, go to dinner, etc. Eating out alone is such a horribly low feeling for me. I feel like everyone is watching me and wondering why I'm out alone. (whew, sorry, rambling)
Anyway, it does depend on your city but both sites are good for finding people who are doing fun events. Some cities are not as boisterous as others so you may or may not not find much. But I encourage you to take a look and let me know if you have any issues, I'll be happy to help.
This year I was able to meet a lot of people through these sites and even have started forming some friendships. I wish you the same.
I get upset thinking about not having a huge family gathering or traditions to do during the holidays but slowly I'm working on growing my makeshift family from the special people that enter my life.
HUGS to you!!!
