saying good bye

Posted by emmanuel98 on October 22, 2009, at 20:10:58

I saw my T today. I had decided, since I am feeling good, to cut back to every other week from once a week. But then he was going to be away for a week, meaning three weeks before appointments, so I asked to see him again in a week, so as not to go three whole weeks between appointments. We spent the session talking about why I decided I couldn't last three weeks. He said that now that I'm feeling better, an important thing to work on is saying goodbye.

I know he's right and he talked about this as something we would do over a few months. I would still see him periodically for meds after that. But I still find it so sad. Has anyone done this, said a meaningful goodbye to a therapist after a long and productive relationship?
