"Delayed Sleep Phase Syndrome"

on Wikipedia

Utopizen, I also thought all-nighters were the cause. Mine started in high school.
You mention riding your bike. I have improvement from heavy physical activity & plenty of daylight.

From a sleep study, I was Dx'd w/ DSPS, above & other.
Unscheduled, I'm inclined to get to bed @ 4am, sometimes later. But when try to sleep, neighbors make noise, phone rings, it's hot, guilt, so not much sleep. It interferes w/ social life & brain function.
Different job schedules are do-able, but I often end up w/ 3-4 hrs, as hard to get to sleep.

My doctor recommended changing this thru light therapy in the morning (blue light - min. 10,000 Lumens) -And, through sleep hygiene, including getting ready for bed early (flossing, prep for work, etc). And meanwhile, the lights are dimmed & the computer monitor should be off early eve(I fail that one). Then can read & when sleepy, get in bed, but not before sleepy.

But, my worst insomnia has to do w/ med's, depression or other times, too much energy.

Hey, does your cat call you to bed?
Bedtime is better with cat company. Humans, yeah, but not the expert cuddlers & no purr.
