Yes, I think that would be an unspoken family rule.
On the other stuff, I'm not much help. I *hate* doing exercises like this and generally refuse. I guess if you feel he really believes it will be beneficial, it would be good to give him the benefit of the doubt. But I don't really get what he's getting at, either.
