Don't blame yourself.

Posted by SLS on March 3, 2009, at 7:46:47

One thing about depression is that it allows for very little personal growth. The rate of positive change is very slow, despite hard work.

Depression dulls and tangles thoughts and feelings. It does not allow for much clarity of thought or the mental energy to process and internalize change.

So...

The next time you are tempted to blame yourself for not making as much progress as you think you should (should is a bad word), remember that you are cognitively challenged by depression, and that any positive change at all is a monumental achievement.

Be merciful to yourself.
