We talked about termination, pathology, physiology

etc...

I decided not to at this time.

We actually had a good talk. I realized that the therapeutic relationship that we have, though it does mimic some of the characteristics of the abusive relationships in my past, is relatively benign. He definately not out to deliberately cause me harm.

That realization (or perhaps simply a reiteration of that realization for the nth time) immediately diffused a lot of the hurt I was feeling. Though he could wield a hefty blow to me, he is not, with any kind of malice or neglect, going to do so.

It all hinges on intent.

We also talked about my new found belief that there may be nothing wrong with me. He seemed very very happy that I had come to that conclusion. I do have moments, though, when I'm just out of the game and it is very easy for me to lose that stability. He says our primary agenda is to work on that stability.

We also discussed whether the obvious deficits in my past were contributing to the way I am now. He says that question can never be answered, but is certainly worth asking.

I don't think the ultimate goal of therapy is to take away who we truly are, but rather to help us be that person. I'm definately realizing who that person is, and sorting out what I need to leave behind, what I need to work on, and what just simply needs to stay as is.

We had to table our discussion on why he makes me so gosh darn mad sometimes. We'll get to that I'm sure.

Happy thanksgiving everyone!

Seldom.
