Sleeping therapist

Posted by Trident on November 12, 2008, at 14:04:08

Well, I wish I had found this board earlier when I was considering leaving my previous therapist. I had been seeing him for about 5 years and decided to leave him only after he fell asleep on me! Has this ever happened to anyone else? I was really upset when it happened - he apologized, but I never was able to trust him fully after that. He never fell asleep again, but he would very frequently look very tired and his eyelids would droop almost to the point of nodding off. Now that I'm seeing someone new, I've realized there were other signs that I should have left sooner - frequently late to appointments and over a year behind in billing. I still have no idea how much I owe him - I would ask periodically and he always said he'd get to it but never did. I'm sure one of these days I'll get a whopper of a bill in the mail....

Anyways, all this is just to say to trust your gut instinct. It was very difficult to leave someone I'd been seeing for so long, but ultimately the right decision.
