Parallel processors do many computations simultaneously. There are tradeoffs, of course, in which you want. Parallel processing can be much more powerful, but coordination the computations of many processors is a challenge in itself. With serial processing, you do have a bottleneck but everything goes in and comes out in an orderly fashion. There are fewer opportunities for things to go wrong that way.
