i think it depends on the type of self-harm and how often it occurs. if occurred only a couple times then probably not. if a person is a self-injurer than i believe that is usually placed in the area of Borderline Personality Disorder. HOWEVER, sometimes people are placed in that category only because of the SI but don't really fit any other of the description. so it's kind of a catch-all for people who SI (which i think is wrong). and a good therapist will look closely at before labeling you, others will see one cut or whatever on you and slap that label on you.
But there are several on this board that SI. including myself...well, i havent in a while, but the urges are still there. and i would be happy to give support if i can.
