Article explaining how repressed body memories of the prenatal and birth experience lie behind the famous painting on the screeeeeeeeam which has become emblematic of our anxious days. He's holding his head because he's reliving pain from coming out of the birth canal (sorry for giving away the plot).
Apparently the various traumas he endured-psychotic father, mom and sibs dying during his childhood etc etc etc triggered these unconscious memories and they caused lifelong pain and dysfunction and were expressed in his paintings-well until he had ECT and gave up alcohol and reportedly women(the author notes helpfully that irony can not be dismissed in this claim) after which he painted landscapes.
