I agree with the diagnosis issue - especially in this day and age of confidentiality issues. Adjustment disorder is a wonderful catch-all bucket that usually works for insurance companies.
And I'm sorry you feel triggered, though I admit to having no idea which thread or what you are referring to. I don't keep up as well as I used to. I've said it before, Babble is an interesting place in which to get and give information and support. But, as will all sites of this type, all kinds of people, with all kinds of advice, come here. Some are very careful with what they write, others speak off the cuff, and may or may not have data or proof, or degrees, or even experience, to inform what they write. I think people extrapolate their own experiences to universal truths - and this is not unique to Babble. I try to believe that each person isn't intentionally spreading old or wrong information but they simply haven't been asked to consider the truth or warrant of their information. In my line of work, everyone is a parenting expert if they've had a child! The debate about spanking still rages, no matter how much scientific data I produce to show how ineffect it is in the long run.
I'm glad you are protecting yourself, as you need to. I think that is so wise and shows a sense of knowing yourself. But I'll also encourage you to jump in at times and respectfully disagree if you see misinformation here. Your level of knowledge is helpful, and one of things that makes this board unique. But do this only if it helps your stress level, not increases it.
Be well.
