That reminds me of Phaedo, my cockatiel. When I first got her she was very wary of me, running/flying away whenever I tried to pick her up. Now, I merely hold my hand in the air and she lands on it. She won't let me out of her sight. If I leave the room she calls over and over till I come back.
I work with computers, so I'm in front of one quite often. Her favorite place is on my desk between my arms while I type. She just sits there and anxiously awaits a head scratch or a dorito chip.
Pets of any sort are a thing to be treasured. They can always bring joy to a person's life.
