If it was friendly sounding, then maybe it would be okay to say something nice back without really committing to any position. And maybe indicate you can say more later without saying this is somehing you want to talk about first with T. I would certainly take a copy of the email along for T to see. Since I don't know for sure if there was a question asked, it is hard to say beyond saying something nice but staying sort of non-committal. I think that makes senese.
