I have had to accept that some days I just am not ready for a full dose of the world. On those days, instead of beating myself up for what I haven't been able to stand (or do, to get to); I make my Ta-Da! list of what I have been able to do. SOmetimes it's really tiny things like, "I walked around the block," or "I went to the store," or "I talked to the lady at the post office."
They seem like crummy little kid steps but they are concrete. They build up, over time. What I find is that when I am at my worst, like, um, lately, those TaDa's can carry me through.
I don't know if this applies at all to how you look at the world but it helps me, even if only a little bit. Yes, life sucks right now (for me), but in small enough chunks, I can still take parts of the world on. And that is enough, it really is.
