The colors are still out there. Miss Joyshredder isn't. And who says you have to use art to express your rage? (ok, well maybe Dr. Clueless, but anyway...) That isn't going to help you see the colors again, if all you see is red and black. That's not really any different from black and white.
And who says you have to conform to realism? Make a horse look like a horse? I'd avoid realism (well, I often do that for other reasons, but anyway...). Here's a great quote from a physicist from a recent conference: "The world is not as real as we think." So go abstract. Create your own style. Go Poetism. And do it for yourself. Use colored pencils if you don't want the mess of other stuff.
Maybe you can see the colors in your head when you write your poetry. But why limit yourself? That's part of why I'm taking guitar lessons again...I think I can hear the colors when I listen to music, and I want to play my own colors, not just listen to someone else having fun with them.
There's something about "growing up" that sucks a lot of the joy and playfulness out of everyone. So what's wrong with learning how to be playful again? Maybe you can find the colors again, because they're still out there waiting. They like to play, too.
