It does end happily, but not the way I wanted.
Thanks for that "Ignatius c'est moi" tip! Oh, wow. I wonder whatever happened to Elayne and Jane D.
There are certain parallels between Ignatius and the author, too. (Someone had helpfully written them in the margins of my library copy.) At one point, Ignatius fears that his mother will take all his scraps of writings and notebooks and publish them herself and make a fortune. Which is exactly what happened to Toole.
There's a biography of John Kennedy Toole, "Ignatius Rising", that got mixed reviews on Amazon, but I'd like to read it.
