Hm, good question.
My current T says that she realizes there are places I won't go. She says I can control whether or not we go there at any time, by telling her I dont' want to discuss xxx thing right then. She said she'll respect that for that time, but that won't mean she'll never go there again. ;-) She also says I can do it all at my pace, which I guess is obvious to someone else, but to me hearing it was helpful as my former T was always bouncing back and forth on things and rushing the therapy since we had limited time left which wasn't very conducive to my wanting to disclose much to her.As for defenses, geez I know what you mean. I'm not sure....You're question needs some time to sit in my head a bit, but I do understand what you mean and you're not alone in how you feel.
Sorry if this wasn't much help.
Take care,
