***So Tamar, what situation do you specifically do it in response to? There are alternatives, but they only work in particular situations I have found. It all depends on what you need to get out of it.
Also, the second part, 'you'll try and deal with it'.....with help right?
I done some SI all right and it can escalate. Again depends on reasons. I have many diff. reasons. Eg, revenge on myself, avenging others on myself, external show of internal pain, to get out of dissociation, to just feel I exist, to show myself I am tough etc.
So that being said I can be set off any number of ways....
However, its also kept me alive many times, as it has been the absolutely only way I was able to stop the escalation of emotions and distress.
However, it is my last choice. I am ashamed of lying to my kids (and everyone else) about my scars. They are ugly. Often the people in emerg. will treat you badly if you go in for stitches. If you lucky they stitch and give you the boot. If you unlucky they hold you in a 'safe room' for god knows how long, for a psych. consult.
Also I found that drinking and SI was much more likely to result in worse injuries.
So take care,
I care about you.
Muffled.
