hi Matt,
I think the body releases certain chemicals when you experience fear. The thing that's called "fight or flight" that helps your body respond to dangerous situations -- it directs your body to release huge amounts of adrenaline & other chems into the body. If you WERE in a life/death situation, you would need that to be able to fight or flee. But in some people, this chemical release happens in response to thoughts, not just physical situations. It can cause all kinds of scary physical sensations. The fear, even though it's in your mind, can trigger all kinds of responses throughout your body. That can be extremely scary!
And it IS like a chain reaction. You feel the fear, then you feel other responses, and that triggers more fear, etc.
Can your talk to a doctor about this and see if there are ways to control it?
I hope you're doing ok.
