Lott: Questions about therapists that you met

Posted by JenStar on July 29, 2005, at 0:04:30

Dear Ms. Lott,
Thanks for agreeing to participate here on Babble! I enjoyed your book very much. I found it well-written, informative, and sympathetic. Many people here have used your book to learn and understand the therapeutic relationship.

My questions are subjective, and I understand if you're not comfortable answering. But here goes!

You interviewed many psychiatrists, psychologists and therapists during the course of your research. From your experiences with them, what percentage of them did your first impressions tell you were the kind of person with whom YOU'D like to do therapy (if you were going to do so)?

Did you notice any differences in attitude towards transference based on the degree held by the therapist, for example, MS vs. PhD?

Did you notice any differences in attitude towards transference based on gender of the therapist? (i.e., were women more aware of and sympathetic to trans. than men, or v.v.?)

Did you notice any differences in attitude towards transference based on age of the therapist? (i.e., under 40 and over 40 years of age?)

Thanks in advance for your answers, and I apologize if these topics are covered in your book.

Thanks!
JenStar
