Lott: Worth the problems

Posted by messadivoce on July 28, 2005, at 20:34:02

I want to tell you how much your book validated me when I was first in therapy. That book and this group of people on this forum is what carried me through the last year.

I was in therapy for 8 months at my University, and my therapist was a pre-doc intern, so our timeframe was set and our termination no surprise. I developed strong, painful paternal transference for him. I have worked through a lot of it, but I still miss him. I will probably miss him the rest of my life.

Do you think that in this age of managed care and short-term treatment, that it is responsible to practice psychodynamically, knowing that the relationship may end long before the transference is worked through? This kind of orientation encourages transference, in my opinion.
