I'm late on this thread but I just wanted to remind you that if things don't work out, there are many different kinds of therapist out there. I hope you find someone you feel safe with and can settle in with. If not with this therapist, than another.
I think you are doing all the right things trying to talk things out with him first. I hope he responds soon. Waiting is torture.
