In reply to MPD/DID anyone?, posted by pretty_paints on January 30, 2005, at 10:29:31
I think there are a number of us here who would say there are frozen age states that resulted from various forms of trauma. When the events are so overwhelming a child can't cope, often the child learns to dissociate and split off the trauma. If it happens at a young enough age, DID/MPD can result. But it is pretty rare. More likely you will find age states that hang around, carry their own pain and have their own needs. It can feel like you are being taken over, but tyically these age states don't take over with memory loss like MPD.
I have to add that if I didn't experience this myself, I would have said "impossible" and not really understood how absolutely split you can feel. My therapist describes it as "mind blowing" and that is exactly how I feel about all of this.
