Whitley Strieber wrote a series of books about alien abductions which have the same flavour as what you're saying.
Many, many years ago when I was having a relationship with a very disturbed man (who turned out to be the father of my child and my first husband, omigod) I had these very horrid waking nightmares or something where I was completely immobile and there would be like an earthquake and I was unable to move.
Also, I felt like a void was opening up and something very very evil was talking to me in a very low voice which was overpowering me to come to it.
This is bringing up horrid feelings, especially when I'm up at 3:30 am because I just had an intense nightmare which I'm going to talk about below.
I feel badly for you, Matt. I remember how intense and awful those experiences were, for me. At the time I believe it happened because of my extreme psychological distress, and the later experiences with the overpowering voice happened when I was taking l-tryptophan at night to help me sleep. When I stopped the l-tryptophan (AND broke the relationship with my first husband!!!) the experiences never returned.
I hope I helped.
