Sounds like a panic attack -- everything just sort of gets surreal. The whole "I am going insane" feeling is the best way to describe it. Though in my experience that is probably not the best way to relate it to a pdoc who has never experienced it.

In my experience if you say: "It feels like I am going insane, just going to lose it..." to a pdoc, next thing you know you are drooling uncontrollably from the high dose of lithium and the guy next to you tells the same story over and over and over and over again... =) J/K

What you are experiencing could be from any number of causes, but I think the dissociative state goes hand in hand with panic attacks; only from my experience though. Just a note... unless you have had some sort of serious head trauma - you may not gain much by getting a scan done. Most importantly, stop trying to DX yourself. Make the most of your sessions with your T, be COMPLETELY honest and just do your best to describe what you are experiencing. If you are still not satisfied I would recommend seeking a second opinion or even a new T or Pdoc. Best of luck Matt!

Matt (I think the real problem is that too many people have this name!)
