Trigger

Would someone explain what "trigger" means in some of the above posts? Maybe I already know, but it seems like its psycho-jargon that I am not familiar with. I know the noun means the device that fires a gun and is used in the venacular to mean a catalyst or spark that ignites something, and the verb means pretty much the same thing - to actuate or case to happen. Is there some psychological term or internet term that means something else?
