What should I do? Dad just tried to OFF himself...

with my husband's gun. He came into our house while I was gone with Mom and DH was working. He took my husband's 357 magnum, loaded it and went into the woods to shoot himself, fired one round then couldn't do it to himself. He came into the house and I got the gun away from him and unloaded it. My therapist's office says I should
a) take him to ER if he'll go, or
b) call the police.
He's been depressed and having major panic attacks and I've been trying to get him to go see a doc but he refuses.
DH is on his way home now from work.
Please help me. What should I do???
