What you wrote appears to me to contradict what you have written elsewhere. This implies that your mentor DID want the person to resolve their childhood trauma. After the minutes of silence were the patients "cured?" Now that would be incredible and I would certainly go for it! Seriously.
Honestly, am I missing something?
I've done lots of exercises like this w/my therapist and through EMDR, and it certainly does help but they are just one part of the whole process.
Also, I am interested in your idea of the child growing up to be that person. For me, I don't want that child to grow up to be me, I want for the adult me to take the best parts of that child before she was damaged by the abuse and help her to grow into a better me today.
