I had a bad therapist experience too. I had a male pyschiatrist tell me that I would be miserable for the rest of my life, and he could just picture me at the age of 40, being an uptight miserable old woman. He listened to my family history and said there was "some" abuse but nothing to be concerned over, which wasn't true! My mother was an alcoholic and my dad was physically and emotionally abusive! Anyways, he told me to just take Paxil because I am just a depressed person, since it runs in my family, and no amount of therapy would work, just medication since it is chemical. He told me the Paxil would work, and to go to the gym and build some muscle. I'm a naturally very thin person, so I took that very personally!
When I was having problems with the Paxil, I called his office, and he had closed my file. Nice, eh? And they wonder why people are falling through the cracks and committing suicide. When you ask for help, many times you are shunned, humiliated and turned away. I asked my doctor to recommend me to a good therapist, and she told me the waiting lists are too long, so don't bother, just take meds. I need a counsellor, dammit, and everytime I try to find one, which has been for years, I have no luck.
