CBT is very standard treatment for panic disorder. Even if there aren't any groups in your area, there may be individual therapists who offer CBT. If you put your toe in the water that way, particularly if you find a therapist who does CBT and other techniques as well, you can then explore how therapy might help you in other ways.
But I really do recommend CBT for panic. The behavioral techniques were enormously helpful to me. I had panic associated with obsessive compulsive disorder, and when my OCD flares up now I can usually handle it with minimal medication using the CBT techniques I learned years ago.
Also, B2chica is right. There are many therapists out there with many different styles. You might need to interview a few or see a few before you find one that is a good fit. I sort of lucked out with mine, but I've seen enough other mental health professionals to know that it really was luck.
