Do Barbiturates relieve emotional distress

I know they are sedatives that calm people with emotional problems in hostpitals sometimes, but i also heard artlices claming they disturb probems, especially with emotionally disturbed individuels.

I may talk to my doc about Amytal (amobarbital) about anxiety and insomnia (i've had many failed trials with others, xanax, too much) It may help me get some other issues too....
