MDMA (Ecstacy) for PTSD

I was just informed today that some researchers have been authorized to use MDMA (Ecstacy) in the treatment of PTSD. I did some of my own Googling and found a research proposal and an article. Apparently, people in Europe have been using this type of treatment for quite some time. I wonder why I never heard about it.
