It sounds as if you're describing vivid memories that start dwelling in your mind. I'm sure there's a name for it, but that's the best I can do to describe it. I do that, too. Something from my past will come up, and I'll go over it again and again and again, even as it's building up anxiety that's getting higher and higher. I guess it's ruminating, which isn't necessarily helpful, but at least it gives it a name.
I don't know what your Official Diagnosis is, but do you discuss these things with your pdoc or T? If this is 'just' anxiety, rather than something else that I wouldn't even begin to know about, they may be able to do something for you, maybe a drug to help counter the anxiety, maybe something like a mantra to chant.
And you know what? You're not alone. I still have certain scenes from my past, some pretty neutral when they happened, that are strongly imprinted on my mind. When the ruminating starts, some of those seemingly neutral events take on pretty sinister interpretations. I think it's the nature of the beast. So, welcome to humanity, and that's not one of the habits you want to keep.
Hope that helps.
