Turning the Tables on your Therapist

Posted by DaisyM on May 5, 2004, at 19:42:00

Today was really productive and actually fun in that I got to "show off," at least a little, what I do best. My Therapist almost never gets to see me this way, and it was nice, for a change, to be competent and creative with him.

We started with why yesterday was helpful and why I'm more put together today. He told me he thought I "just" needed the reassurance and if that is what worked, we need to do more of it, even though part of me cringes to here that.

We then talked about basic selfcare stuff about my upcoming staff retreat. I told him that some of what I could do to protect myself from overwhelm was "wimpy." He said, (I love this) "Screw wimpy! This is about survival and keeping you together..." So we talked about how to duck questions and what prepared statements I might make that didn't sound like I didn't want to be in charge or a was dodging stuff. And we talked about my need to control everything and he made me practice saying, "so what?" And not immediately following that with But!

We did get off a bit talking about life wishes and career paths so we only got through the first day of the agenda. We are going to continue tomorrow with the rest. As I was leaving I told him that tomorrow we could practice the self-discovery "fun" tests we had for our staff.

Like, "if you were a cookie, what would you be?" He said he was up for that tomorrow but I had to answer it now. I said, "burned" of course. He laughed...

so OK Babblers, here are three of the psych questions:
If you were a cookie, what would you be?

If you had to be stranded on a desert island with a famous person, past or present, who would it be?

If you were a type of shoe, what would it be?
