We will. We have to. I spend a lot to time watching my youngest child these days, reminding myself that I have responsibilities and that fighting to feel better is worth it. He needs his mom still.
So when I'm really in the dark places of "this isn't worth it" I hang in there for him, not for me. You can borrow him if you want. :) I'll share this because I'm a mother who brags...my youngest is in 7th grade and he isn't very big. He was diagnosed with an anxiety disorder at the beginning of 6th grade, spent a year in therapy learning tools to help him (biofeedback, etc.) and was on paxil. Now he is off everything and out of therapy. He still gets anxious, but he breathes and gets through it. He has chosen wrestling as his sport, which amazes me, since it is so personal and you are in the center of the ring with everyone looking at you. He lost every match this year.
At the awards banquet this week, his coach gave away 5 individual awards: most valuable, most pins, etc. My son was given a trophy called the "courage" award. His coach said, "this is for who you are, not how good or bad at the sport, but how you approach life. I want to be you when I grow up." My son had huge tears in his eyes as he shook his coach's hand and every mother in the place as crying.
If he can be that brave, so can we. Now it is your turn to tell me a story...
:)
