Yeah, it really did hurt. I did eventually bring it up- I have to, really, because of the free-association- and a good discussion ensued about trying to give someone a special present, including something of oneself- and having it be ignored or devalued, There were many painful memories of similiar occurences in childhood. Then, after we'd gotten all of this out of it. "analytically", he said "I'm glad you wrote me, and I appreciate what you said". So, maybe it's better to speak up!
