Sadmom,

It could be a legitimate question. Lack of interest in sex can be both a symptom of depression and a side effect of some drugs. Of course it can also be a side effect of trying to raise 4 kids as a single parent - something I suspect women doctors may be quicker to grasp.

I always thought it was just as strange that some psychiatrists never ask me about sex at all. I wonder whether they don't ask any of their patients or if they are only comfortable asking the men.

What's your gut feeling about the way the question was asked? Did it give you the creeps? If one of the women were to ask you do you think they'd ask the question the same way?
