Dear Judy,
I went on a hike Sunday, and one of the ladies brought her dog, I think it was a golden retreiver, with curly hair...anyway, I have never been herded up the mountain before :0) that is what this dog did, I am sure he climbed the side of the mountain ten times to our one....coming back to check to make sure everyone was accounted for. Part way up, one person decided to return to the car, and he took off to look for her, until the owner called him back and reassured him...the next time he came down, I was the last person, and he checked me, and turned right back up the trail...all accounted for. I never knew dogs could count.Yes, I think assistance dogs require a lot of work, but the payoff is tremendous. I have never met someone who has one...yours will be wonderful, I am sure. I really look forward to hearing about your experience.
