Decisions taken at the top had the effect *here* of enabling terrible (and less than terrible) things since many people took their cue from our leaders.
Dehumanization of the enemy and (in particular) confusion of cause and effect are so standard as to make one wonder about the sanity (or intelligence) of our species.
It seems to be more important to show firmness of purpose and even to inflict wounds on oneself than it is to admit reality.
But reality looks like it has been restored as a guiding principle.The US (rightly, IMO) prosecuted Japanese soldiers for waterboarding US troops in WWII.
That looks like a good doco.
