There's been nothing conservative about the current administration.
You, like me I imagine, have seen conservatism morph into something quite unrecognisable. My idea of conservatism is that it is a reaction to utopian leftist social engineering, is sceptical about the powers of government to beneficially change things, and looks to the values of the past as a useful guide to the future.
In this sense Obama spending some time helping to feed the homeless is classic conservatism. Those values go back as far as you want to look, before Jesus, no doubt.
The idea that conservatism means nationalism, the interests of big business, or a literalist interpretation of the Bible, leaves me incredulous.
Funny how utopianism migrated to the right at the same time as conservatism migrated to the left.
But I suspect this is changing as we speak, to something new.
