It seems that unless there is a civil way to say things, and a way to express what some fundamentalist leaders say without repeating their words, or, for that matter directly pointing to them, that we can't have this discussion here.
The only way to do so with the current rules of civility would be something like this:
Some religious leaders say things that I believe to be untrue and hurtful about the GLBT community. Naming those who do so might upset some who trust them, so I can't do that. Because the words they use are harsh and upsetting, I can't repeat them or provide a link to the things they do say.
The GLBT community has been blamed for a number of terrible events that have befallen this country. I believe the leaders who have made these accusations to be in error. I'm prohibited from saying more about this or providing any details.
I believe that Gays and Lesbians ought to have the right to marry. As for the legal basis for my beliefs, and as they would challenge some of the beliefs of some adherents to the christian faith, I can't state them here.
It would be nice if we could be nice to each other and have our own beliefs in this country, but some people might take offense to gay and lesbian marriages, and other religions. That's very sad.
Basically, I think that it's impossible to have a discussion of any debth or merit on this subject, given the rules with which we have to work. It was becoming a good discussion. I'll miss it.
I don't mind supporting and building people up. That part of Babble is fine.
If, however, there's a board dealing with politics, if real issues, perceptions and positions can't be discussed, I don't see any point in having any discussion at all. So, I guess I'm done on politics. It was fun while it lasted.
