I believe I mentioned that I find it a problem to mix health and boards that have a purpose counter to the usual types of posts on the health board.
I would oppose health and social for that reason. I think health often addresses topics that are upsetting, such as sickness and and so forth. For example, much of health would be devoted to Phillipa's postings about osteoporosis and her warnings about the bisphosphonates. (She has posted about this quite a bit on the meds board and not all her posts have been redirected. ) This is something that she apparently is much concerned about. It is fine with me if she posts these posts, but I personally don't feel that I could visit a board with them, as my mother also takes bisphosphonates. I have done a lot of research and thinking about them and have come to the opposite conclusions as Phillipa. However, I find it upsetting to read frequently about the horrible outcomes and lack of benefits that she believes they have. I do not want to debate this issue and, having come to my conclusions, want to let the matter rest. Moreover I keep up on this issue to my own satisfaction.
I enjoy the social board as something a bit more spontaneous and freewheeling than some of the others. Frequent posts about bisphosphonates --or sickness etc in general-- would make that quite a grim place. Meds seems very important and busy and not a conducive place to introduce off=topic information. So I see the logic of health and social. However, I think the effect would run counter to the mood of the social board.
More understandable to me would be combining health and alternative which at least have similar concerns. I just think however helpful to posting on the health board, one should not combine boards that don't fit together well.
