I'm only up to a mile, but for me consistency is the key. I was running just about every day, but I've gone back to every other day because of a brief illness, some back pain and knee pain. I'm also focusing on building my abdominal muscles, my brother said that that's important for running (he's done some marathons).
I'm hoping to work up to 3 miles at a time within a couple of months. I hope I can run a 5K, that might be nice. The days are getting longer and warmer and it's easier to be outside.
You know what sucks though is that it doesn't seem that I've lost any weight, I have however gained some muscle and definition. So, on to the next thing...changing my diet.
I've got no problem drinking a lot of water, I like to drink a lot of it. I do need to stop drinking soda, but I'm addicted to it, the caffeine, the sugar. Portion size is another thing, but if I prepare meals ahead of time I can handle that, add lots of fruit and vegetables, but there are the ever present sweet things, brownies and cookies and cake oh my.
1) stop soda
2) make meals
3) stop using cake as a coping mechanism ;-)
4) and I absolutely MUST avoid fast food as much as possibleok, so 4 things..that's a manageable list right?
SLOW changes
