Hey there, I saw your post on the main medication board. I was a heavy drinker for many years and when I started to take medications for depression and anxiety I started to freak out that I'd be damaging myself much more, according to the labels on the pill bottles and everything.
I never did address the alcoholism with any doctor except my psychiatrist, who had my liver function tested (it was fine) and encouraged me to go into an outpatient programme, prescribed Campral, and sent me off to the therapist.
Telling the pdoc that I'd been drinking a lot while taking my medications was terribly difficult, but by then I was going into a blackout every time I'd drink, so I kind of lumped all the humiliation together. As long as I was a Loser (in my head, I know otherwise!), it was no great leap for me to ask my doctor to make sure I wasn't injuring my liver beyond self repair.
It wasn't the medication that made me worry - my drinking career predated my psychological treatment by many years. But the combination of my medications and alcohol was a really bad one. It really helped ease my mind - so to speak - to get my liver function thoroughly checked out.
p.s. sober for 8 months. also benzo free.
Good luck.
